New Job

Well actually its a new position at the same company. More details to follow, but suffice to say I am excited.....

Poor Mavs Fans

Personally, I think this has been one of the best NBA Finals I have watched in a long time. Plus, the playoffs have been spectacular. The officiating on the other hand has been less than steller. Its been amusing to watch the officials eat their whistles when blatant offensive fouls have been committed by players (LeBron travelling by about 2 steps against Washington, Wade getting phantom calls all the time, and these are players that I love) that it is almost sad to watch a great playoffs ruined by officials who are about to fossilize on the court (or in Dick Bavetta's case mummify, its just very scary). Anyway, the Finals are probably going to go 7 games because this is what the dictator...er David Stern wants. Hopefully, when Stern retires the referees will start calling the game properly, and this includes moving screens. Maybe some fairness in officiating will come to the forefront during Game 6 and 7, but more likely Game 6 will be a farce and Dallas will have about 60 free throws to Miami's 5, and maybe Game 7 will be fair, but its doubtful. This is just further proof that we should have robots be the officials. I mean look at tennis, line judges are slowly being eliminated with the introduction of the spot shadow computer camera. Or how about baseball with the Questec system, pitchers may hate it because umpires have had all discretion taken away from them in terms of shifting the strikezone, but at least the rules are now applied consistently.

Learning to Dive

So I want to learn how to dive. Hear me out this isn't another wacky adventure I am dreaming up, and probably won't follow through on, I am totally seriously about doing this.

Here are my reasons for wanting to learn how to dive. I've come to the conclusion that alot of the outdoor activities that I did for enjoyment are starting to become harder to participate in. Basketball with my buddies on the weekend isn't as regular as it used to be especially since so many of them are/have moved to different locations. Flag Football is basically torture because I will always have the instinct to hammer people when they have the ball. In fact, any football where you can't tackle is just not very much fun. I considered really taking up golf, but in all honesty I really don't like it all that much. Maybe when I am older or fatter, but right now, golf is something I can do with friends a couple of times in the summer cause its a great excuse to get drunk in the afternoons while barely staying in control of the little cart.

I work out almost everyday, so I am not in need of a physical activity to keep me in shape (although, I am also looking to join a Thai Boxing class at the gym. I know that I will probably be the only straight male in that class, but it looks like fun and a great cardio workout. Too bad I am on a 2 month waiting list to join the class, but hopefully, I might be able to join a class downtown). I really enjoy going to sunny locations for vacations and I plan on going to Bora Bora one day, so learning how to dive seems like a natural choice for a new hobby. If I can get certified I'll be able to do something other than lay by the pool all day when I go to an island for a quick getaway. Personally, I've always enjoyed my winter vacations more than my tropical ones because I was able to snowboard in the winter. Well I think scuba can be the same thing for me in warm weather locales. Now all I have to do is find a place that will teach me, but for some reason I am prepared for a massive financial cost ($600), does anyone actually know how much it costs to learn how to dive?

Its been a while

Hello dedicated readers, its been a while since I've posted something new. I guess a combination of laziness and being busy at work has hindered the updates. Alas, nothing new really has happened. A couple of goings ons has gone, so let me catch you up.

1) A good friend of mine, Warren (see his link), has officially moved out to LA. He started driving on Saturday with his mom (yeah, I know, but keep in mind Warren is known for being a somewhat aggressive driver, so Mrs. Poon's presence probably saved him about $1000 worth of speeding tickets), so he should have arrived safely in the land of silicone and sunshine by now. Since he posted something new on his blog it is safe to assume he didn't stop in Boulder to join some weird fundamentalist Christian cult. I will probably be heading out to the sunshine state or Vegas this fall for a weekend of hanging out with all of the LA guys, so its something I am definitely looking forward to.....plus they will have a new pad in the OC, so I must check that out.

2) I had a very successful BBQ on Saturday despite the fact that the weather refused to co-operate. It was quite the eclectic group at my house, with work friends mingling with high school friends and girlfriend's friends. Suprisingly worlds did not collide as much as you would expect. I suppose the key to any sort of mixed group function is to keep the numbers of each group to a minimum, that way everyone is forced to talk to everyone else, and the individual groups cannot confine themselves to the comfort of people they already know.

3) Saw a couple of new movies in the last week. My quick reviews:

X-Men 3: Great movie, but not for everyone. You have to appreciate the comic book to grasp the risks that this movie took. Being a Wolverine fan helps too.

The Da Vinci Code: Great movie if you never read the book. So-so to bad if you did. I didn't mind the movie, it tried as hard as it could to stay true to the book, and I applaude the effort. However, it did pale when compared to the book, which is saying a lot since Dan Brown isn't exactly Charles Dickens. Seeing all the landmarks the book uses in movie form was fun.

4) I think I'll be getting a new laptop soon. The frontrunner (and only runner) is the Apple Mac Book (white). I haven't had a new computer in about 2 years, so its time for an upgrade. I think I'll be putting birthday present money towards the new computer. I'm very excited.....
